With the government now open again, we can look back and see what’s been accomplished. From a drama perspective, we’ve generated lots of entertainment. Comedians have rarely had so much good material. But from an economic perspective, not so much.
There’s little disagreement among experts that the US faces some serious budget issues over the next 20-40 years: projected spending is substantially greater than projected revenue. One or both will have to adjust. None of this is particularly controversial, and it’s true with or without ObamaCare. The question is when our political leaders will decide to address it. Next time?
