Daron Acemoglu on Turkey

June 6, 2013

Great piece by one of the leading economists of our time.  An excerpt:

Even before the brutal suppression of the demonstrations, the belief that Turkey was on its way to becoming a mature democracy — a role model for the rest of the Middle East — had already become untenable.

Turkey remains, for me, a really interesting country.  The next few years are shaping up as important ones in its history.

Update (Jun 6):  another nice piece via Tyler Cowen. Also some links to the Nations Fail blog, and from there, this classic by Gareth Jenkins.  Stan adds one from The Economist.

Update (Jun 16):  Dani Rodrik.
