Red tape chronicles, Canadian edition

November 3, 2012

From Bill Watson, an old friend who teaches at McGill.  It seems the Canadian postal service (Canada Post) decided the three steps up to his porch were a hazard to mail carriers.  If left unfixed, they would stop delivering his mail.  More here, including a picture of the dangerous steps.

What’s not in the piece is that the story was followed up by the news media all over Canada, making him a national celebrity.  For months afterwards, UPS and FedEx workers joked when they delivered packages that they were happy to walk up such dangerous steps for such a good customer.
