Nobel announcement

October 15, 2012

The Nobel Prize in economics this year goes to Al Roth and Lloyd Shapley, whose work has had a huge impact on the mathematical foundation and practical application of game theory.  Shapley is a mathematical game theorist who made a number of important theoretical contributions that I’ll leave to others to explain.  Roth has worked on applied aspects of some of the same issues, including school choice and chains for matching kidney donors with recipients.  His blog is a good place to start.

We may post an update later, but here are some good links: official announcement, Cowen, Tabarrok, Roth’s Google talk.

Update (Oct 16):  more links.
